App strategy for a public authority

As a UI designer, I helped transform a jungle of government services into a clear, understandable system for handling administrative tasks. The focus was not on the authorities themselves, but on the people using the app. My primary goal was to develop a visual language that conveys professionalism and trustworthiness while remaining approachable and human. We sought to strike a balance between accessibility, security, and usability: less bureaucracy, more simplicity.

Working as a team, we developed ideas for an initial version of the app, built prototypes, conducted tests, and continuously refined the design. Shown here on the right are excerpts from the vision papers and microsites, illustrating our strategic approach and specific features.

Finacial advisory

My concept partner and I had three days to come up with a way to present app feature ideas to a banking client that went beyond a standard PowerPoint presentation.

We devised a story about Peter and his family and brought it to life on a microsite using high-level designs and illustrations. In the scenario, Peter suffers a skiing accident and requires a helicopter rescue, yet—thanks to the app’s new features—he is able to transfer business responsibilities to his wife, Susanne, directly from the hospital.

Impfservice

Covid caught everyone off guard. A booking website was needed at a moment's notice to secure vaccination appointments quickly and in an organized manner. The goal was to explain complex information clearly, striking the right balance without being overly casual, while also guiding users securely through the booking process.

Since speed was critical, iteration cycles were very short and the team was small: a UX expert, a UI designer (my role), a developer, and an account manager.

Health Literacy

How can an abstract concept like health literacy be explained in an understandable way? For a health literacy project, I created illustrations that show what health literacy means and why it plays an important role in everyday life. The goal was to visually break down complex processes: finding, understanding, and evaluating information, and then applying it to one’s own health.

Should you listen to tips on Instagram or advice from acquaintances? How do you sort through the flood of information on the internet? These illustrations, combined with text and statistics, help raise awareness of health literacy.
